Women investing in women

Surrey Women’s Entrepreneurship Network (SWEN) Birthday event celebrates and supports women founders and investors.

The Surrey Women’s Entrepreneurship Network (SWEN) is transforming the local business landscape, creating a space for women entrepreneurs and investors to connect, grow, and support one another. With its anniversary event approaching at the end of November, SWEN is inviting more women investors and entrepreneurs to join and attend. Members gain access to valuable resources, expertise and opportunities that help foster business success.

Building a Network for Women Entrepreneurs
SWEN was founded at University of Surrey and Surrey Research Park, and is supported by SETsquared Surrey and S100 Angel Investment Club, all part of the University. It was formed to address the unique challenges women entrepreneurs often encounter, from access to investment and other forms of funding, to empowering mentorship and peer support. By offering tailored resources and a strong sense of community, SWEN provides women entrepreneurs with the support they need to thrive including the great benefits that come from being part of a University-founded network; SWEN bridges the gap between local entrepreneurship and the innovation ecosystem around the University of Surrey.

For women founders in the region, the SWEN provides a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded women, gain access to valuable resources, and find a nurturing environment dedicated to their growth.

Lottie Watson, Operations Manager for the S100 Club says,

“The S100 Angel investment club is keen to grow its group of women investors. These investors are often major supporters of women founders and form a vital part of the SWEN, contributing not only funding to women founders but also unique insights and mentorship drawn from their own professional journeys.

Investors offer guidance and key industry connections, often helping women entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of building sustainable, purpose-driven businesses. Potential investors can find out more about joining and get a taste of things by registering for  SWEN event on 28th November.”

SWEN and S100 Club working together

SWEN’s peer-to-peer model supports impactful partnerships, allowing women founders to connect with like-minded women and with investors from the S100 Club. This approach reduces dependence on traditional funding channels, which can sometimes be challenging to access for women-led ventures. Through SWEN, founders and investors create a supportive network, enriching each other’s journeys and strengthening pathways to long-term success.
