Women in STEM Celebrated at Surrey Research Park for International Women’s Day 2025

Women of Surrey Research Park

A new exhibition celebrating the achievements of women in science and technology has been unveiled at Surrey Research Park, part of the University of Surrey.

The event marked the culmination of a month-long campaign highlighting 27 women working across 10 different companies shaping the future of technology and sustainability.

Earlier today (5 March), influential women from across the Research Park were joined by Zoe Franklin MP, Member of Parliament for Guildford, and Mayor Councillor Sallie Barker MBE – both champions of women in business and education – to officially launch the exhibition at the Surrey Technology Centre, at the Park.

Speaking at the event, Zöe Franklin MP highlighted the power of storytelling in inspiring more women to pursue careers in science and technology:

“This exhibition is about showcasing the incredible women driving innovation across Surrey Research Park. Their stories will inspire the next generation — whether they’re school students, university graduates, or career changers — helping them see that STEM is a space where they belong.”

Her words were echoed by Councillor Barker, Mayor of Guildford, who praised the campaign’s role in raising awareness of women’s contributions to science and technology in the borough:

“It’s fantastic to see the Research Park celebrating the impact of women-led innovation. Sharing these stories is key to breaking barriers and encouraging more women into these fields.”

Highlighting Women-Led Innovation

Juliet Jones, Chief Scientific Officer at NatureMetrics and one of the women featured in the campaign and exhibition explained how it felt to be involved:

“It’s a real privilege to be recognised, and it’s so important that women are supported in the STEM industry. It’s brilliant to see Surrey Research Park coming together to acknowledge that, and this campaign is a great opportunity to connect companies across the Park.

“This is particularly exciting for me because I now feel I have a story with the University of Surrey. I started my career here, earning my degree and completing a post-doctorate, and I keep coming back to Surrey—I feel really supported here.”

Caroline Fleming, Director at Surrey Innovation District at the University of Surrey, highlighted the overwhelmingly positive response to the campaign:

“We’ve had an amazing response to our Women of Surrey Research Park campaign, and today’s exhibition launch was a real highlight — especially with so many of our region’s inspirational leaders joining us. Behind every face in our exhibition and every story shared in our online campaign is an incredible woman driving innovation, demonstrating leadership, and showcasing technical excellence.”
