Four pioneering companies based at Surrey Research Park have received a cash boost in the first round of Surrey County Council’s Economic Growth Fund.
In total, the £7 million initiative is designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential businesses that contribute to the county’s long-term economic growth and regional innovation.
The successful Park-based companies to receive a share of the £2 million ringfenced for this first round, are: Molecular Medical, Rhizo PTX, Sammi-Select and DIREK. The latter three are also members of our SETsquared Surrey business incubator.
The companies represent some of the most innovative and exciting developments in advanced technology, life sciences and sustainability in our region. Their success highlights the Park’s role as an innovation community, where entrepreneurs and researchers benefit from academic collaboration, opportunities to use facilities, expert mentoring via SETsquared Surrey, and access to top talent and expertise at the University of Surrey.
Surrey Venture Studio
Alongside these company awards, funding was also secured to create the Surrey Venture Studio (SVS). Starting in November, this is an exciting new programme involving the University of Surrey, Royal Holloway and University for the Creative Arts (UCA) to support early-stage, pre-seed funding, academic and community-led ventures across the county. SVS will support IP-rich business ideas in the following disciplines:
- AI & Digital
- Culture & Creative Industries
- Sustainability
- Space & Aerospace
- Health & Wellbeing
Importantly, SVS aligns with UK Government policy to increase spin-out creation and academic-commercial translation, supporting inclusive growth and regional innovation.
Look out for more information about the SVS soon.
