Michael Reilly has recently joined the University of Surrey as Research Bid Development Manager to help identify opportunities for tenant businesses on Surrey Research Park to collaborate with academics at the University of Surrey, focusing in particular on the UK Industrial Strategy.
The aim of the UK Industrial Strategy is to boost productivity by backing businesses to create good jobs and increase the earning power of people throughout the UK with investment in skills, industries and infrastructure.
The Government’s Industrial Strategy is supported by the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, a core pillar in the government’s commitment to increase funding in research and development by £4.7 billion over 4 years to strengthen UK science and business.
Once a viable opportunity of research and business collaboration has been identified, Michael Reilly will liaise with partners to ensure a seamless relationship with the University, and work collaboratively to develop proposals to maximise the chances of success in accessing funding.
Prior to joining University of Surrey, Michael worked on commercialisation and knowledge exchange at the University of Bristol, engaging with a variety of businesses from multinationals to spin-outs. He also has direct experience of commercialisation from his time at a digital cinema start-up in Edinburgh. In 2007, he became part of the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser’s Foresight programme team in London, which led to several international assignments, including projects in Singapore.
