The University has installed network lines in their Leggett Building, giving it a direct connection with the neighbouring hospital. This will allow staff to relocate from their offices, which are currently in high-risk areas of the hospital.
Staff from RSCH will also be able to use more than 200 free car park spaces at Bright Horizons Day Nursery and the Kate Granger Building, just a few minutes’ walk from the hospital and located in Surrey Research Park.
In addition, Surrey Research Park has made available 120 parking spaces and BAE Systems located on Surrey Research Park has given staff at RSCH access to their car park.
Andy Chalklin, Chief Operating Officer from the University of Surrey, said: “In comparison to the extraordinary efforts being made and risks faced by NHS workers every day – including many of our own nursing and paramedic students and staff – this is only a small gesture of gratitude and solidarity on our part. We are in detailed discussions with our partners in other organisations to make available many more of the resources and capabilities of the University to support the effort to combat Covid-19, including plans to offer our world class teaching facilities to train NHS staff and some of our accommodation to house NHS staff close to the hospital.
