Free workshop to improve recruitment diversity

Surrey Research Park tenants are invited to the event which will take place on 29th January in the Surrey Technology Centre.

The event will help attendees increase diversity within an organisation, introduce companies to support BAME students in developing career-ready skills and help companies recruit the best talent available.

There will be light refreshment available.


The event will have three parts:

Training session on overcoming Unconscious Bias

Matthew MacLachlan, People Culture and Inclusion Manager at the University of Surrey, will introduce some simple ways you can evolve your recruitment process to eliminate the unconscious biases that we all have. The ultimate goal is to gain access to that large part of the talent pool that we miss through cultural blindness.

Powerful narrative by speaker Nima Abu Wardeh

As the face of the BBC World programme “Middle East Business Report,” Nima covered the uprisings and revolutions in the Middle East, the boom bust cycle of the region’s economies and more. She has interviewed everyone from presidents of countries, royalty, heads of business to taxi drivers and the unemployed. She has been called a thought leader and is often approached by think-tanks, the corporate world and government entities for her insight.

Introduction to our mentoring programme

This programme aims to link Black and Asian students with professionals to enhance their employability through confidence building, networking and development of the key skills employers seek. It is also a chance for them to learn about the opportunities available in specific career areas. It is an opportunity for organisations to make a material difference to a student’s career outcomes and with the help of their mentor as a role model, guide them to develop into successful professionals.
