Innovators, scientists, engineers and the wider community at Surrey Research Park are primed to come together to collectively Clock-Up A Mile and cover 100 miles collectively in support of Cancer Research UK.
The challenge takes place on Tuesday 30 September and forms part of a nationwide fundraising effort linking leading science and research parks.
Participants can choose how to get involved: reserve a slot on exercise equipment at the Surrey Technology Centre, head to Surrey Sports Park, or record a mile on their own fitness tracker.
The Backstory
The idea for the 100-mile relay involving science and research parks was conceived as part of a wider campaign creating fitness opportunities while fundraising for Cancer Research UK. Called “This is for Me – This is for Science”, the year-long campaign is a collaborative effort between Cancer Research UK and the Francis Crick Science Entrepreneur Network.
It is endorsed by the UK Government’s Office for Life Sciences (DHSC/DSIT), Cancer Research Horizons (CRH), and the Independent Cancer Patients’ Voice (ICPV), among others.
The campaign aims to raise £250,000 and involve more than 5,000 people from the UK’s leading research locations. Surrey Research Park is the third leg of the relay, following previous events at the Francis Crick Institute in London and Discovery Park in Kent.
By combining physical activity with fundraising, the campaign mirrors the Surrey Research Park community’s spirit of collaboration and innovation – working together to deliver progress that supports healthier futures.
