The Williams Formula 1 team’s investment arm has contributed £1.5m into Inovo Robotics’ development of a collaborative robot.
Inovo Robotics, based at the Surrey Research Park, have developed a low-cost robot – nicknamed “cobot” – which will be able to work alongside human employees in existing workforce processes with a focus on batch manufacturing tasks.
The robot is designed to operate safely in a human environment. Its lightweight build will allow the robot to move from one task to another, and it will not require a high level of skill to programme.
According to Williams, the founders of Inovo Robotics possess “deep technical expertise and experience of delivering complex engineering development products”. The focus for Inovo Robotics is to create capable and versatile robotics for all that can also address problems growing businesses have in automating repetitive, hazardous or precise tasks. Inovo Robotics already has a range of “plug and play” modular components that can easily be assembled to suit a business’ needs, with app-based software package to guide users through configuration.
Inovo Robotics’ technology has already been used in a wide range of businesses including bakeries, science labs and spray booths within car factories. Cobot is currently in development with consumer trials scheduled for mid-2019.
