New nature performance service represents breakthrough in understanding and managing our impact on nature, providing simple metrics to track and report on site-based nature progress in a simple, standardised way
Performance data is fuelled by NatureMetrics’ environmental DNA technology, already detecting over 3,200 endangered and protected species across 85+ countries in the last year alone
CEO of NatureMetrics calls on COP15 leaders to set bold Nature Positive targets for the Global Biodiversity Framework, with the new technology now allowing businesses to achieve and demonstrate robust progress on nature towards these global goals
NatureMetrics, the global nature intelligence technology company based at Surrey Research park has launched the world’s most powerful nature performance monitoring subscription service, putting meaningful and robust nature insights into the hands of business decision makers across the globe.
The new subscription service provides continuous nature impact monitoring at scale, enabling standardised performance measurement of natural ecosystems, never before achievable due to the deep complexities of nature.
Fundamental for businesses to report and manage nature risk, these insights will be accessible through a new digital dashboard, making vital information on nature impact accessible and easy to understand by multiple stakeholders across any organisation.
“The vast complexity of nature has made it almost impossible to set actionable goals and targets. eDNA technology is genuinely transformative in this regard, enabling biodiversity to be routinely monitored at large scales. Now our new platform brings eDNA data to life, translating complex datasets into clear, simple trends and insights that drive effective actions to improve outcomes for nature”states Kat Bruce, Founder of NatureMetrics.
The company has standardised and scaled eDNA technology, which captures tiny traces of all species, across the whole web of life, from bacteria to blue whales, to provide an accurate understanding of the state of nature within site-based assets. NatureMetrics applies expert data science and visualisation to the environmental data it gathers on the ground, to make it accessible and reportable through simple metrics.
Alongside understanding the changing state of a single or group of sites, needed to make resourcing decisions at the executive level, it will also provide insights into the drivers of change at site management level. Through comparing management regimes, it will drive adaptive management and enable real change on the ground – whether that is minimising risks and impacts or increasing returns on natural capital investments.
“As world leaders gather at COP15 to set critical global biodiversity targets, I call on them to turn rhetoric into action and set robust goals for the world to follow. By launching the world’s most accurate nature performance monitoring system, companies across the globe will have one simple-to-deploy tool, enabling them to understand, track and improve their natural capital. Through cutting edge environmental DNA technology, we’ve devised a way of turning complex nature data into simple and meaningful metrics, to enable good decisions at both the board room and site manager level – driving meaningful, long term change” says Katie Critchlow, CEO of NatureMetrics.
“Nature Risk is moving up company agendas fast but many of our members are concerned about the lack of robust data to drive decision-making. It’s really encouraging to see new solutions coming to market which will enable nature-related financial risks and opportunities to be better assessed and reported from the site level up and ultimately enable TNFD members to access performance metrics of their assets, suppliers or portfolio companies”,adds James d’Ath, Technical Lead Data and Analytics, Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).
